What is a Knife Gate Valve?
Knife Gate Valves are designed for slurry and abrasive applications. They are commonly used in fluids containing abrasive particles. These valves are named knife gate valves because they cut the fluid flow with a blade (gate) perpendicular to the flow. This blade is closed and opened vertically between two sealing rings. They are preferred to operate fully open or fully closed. They are not suitable for precise flow control.
Knife gate valves are suitable for use in highly fibrous fluids, such as in the paper industry and wastewater lines. They provide full sealing with their one-piece body and elastomer (EPDM, NBR, NR) seat. They can also be manufactured with a metal seat according to the fluid properties. They can be equipped with handwheel, gear box, chain wheel, pneumatic actuator, or electric actuator.
