Heating Coils

Heating, cooling and DX (direct expansion) coils are a type of heat exchanger mostly used in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems to condition the air and maintain desired indoor climate conditions. The primary function of a coil is to facilitate heat transfer between the air and the fluid (refrigerant, water or steam) inside the tubes.

Radiators can be fundamentally categorized based on the fluid circulating within them, such as Steam Radiators, Hot Water Radiators, Superheated Water Radiators, Hot Oil Radiators, and Seawater Radiators. Each type has different areas of application and purposes. The choice of coil fins among steam, hot water, and hot oil options is made considering the system conditions, pressure drop, and efficiency.

Steam Radiator
These are heat exchangers used to meet the heating needs of a facility by utilizing steam energy.

Hot Water Radiator
These heat exchangers are used for the purpose of obtaining hot water.

Hot Oil Radiator
This type of radiator is used to cool oils that are not in use or to regulate the ambient temperature by using the heat of the oil.

Coils Used in Radiators
The materials used in radiators are determined based on the project. Pipes and fins can be made from the same material or from different materials suitable for the process.

Materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and special alloys (Bafon, brass, etc.) are generally used for pipes, while materials like carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper can also be preferred for fins.

Different types of tubes and fins, such as spiral finned coils, oval tube coils, stacked fin coils, and crimped tube coils, are also used in the manufacturing of radiators.

What are the Components of a Radiator?

Radiators typically consist of three main components.

Collectors
Collectors are determined based on the type of fluid, working pressure, and temperature. Options include U Cap, Flat Cap, and Dished Cap. Collectors can also be manufactured as pipes. In such products, the return of the pipes is facilitated by elbow pipes. Collectors can also be manufactured as movable types according to system needs.

Coils
Coils are either finned heaters or plain tubes. They are determined based on the process. The types of coils are selected according to the operating conditions of the radiators to be used.

Headers
The material, length, and thickness of the headers are again determined according to the system. Tube-header connections are made using welding, machineto, or a combination of welding and machineto.
